Code 39 basics

Every symbol starts and ends with the * character. Each character uses 9 bars/spaces (3 wide, 6 narrow). The ratio between wide and narrow bars is typically 3:1.

Quiet zone guidance

Leave blank space (quiet zone) equal to at least 10 narrow bars on both sides. Increase the value when the barcode sits near borders or artwork.

Printing best practices

Use high-contrast colors (dark bars on light background) and export at 300 DPI when printing to labels or packaging.
